The concept of organisational “culture”, long regarded as fairly nebulous and often categorized in simple binary terms (either Good or Bad) has suddenly become an object of great interest in business and industry because of a flood of public scandals.

There is increasing recognition of the importance of a good culture to the successful operation of an enterprise.

Progress in managing (measuring, monitoring and improving) culture has been hampered by continuing debate over how to define it, how to measure it, and inadequate processes for improving it.

Key Criteria for a Culture Improvement Process

The Culture Improvement Process has been designed with the following essentials in mind:

Produces timely, actionable data with the ability to drill down.
Provides a sound basis for identifying priorities likely to make the biggest difference to the business bottom line.
Statistically valid and providing confidence that nothing important is being overlooked in the survey.
A process that does not place undue burden on enterprise resources or on respondents.
Survey provides high-level and valid benchmarking metrics.
The high-level metrics support Directors and other officers in discharging their Due Diligence Duties.

With the overall goal of achieving a Good Enterprise Culture (GEC), identify the key drivers of this goal and their attributes, and determine how to connect GEC to higher level business drivers.
Put measures and measurement processes in place to acquire data.
Acquire and analyse Culture survey data.
Identify the improvement priorities that will have the greatest impact on the culture, and hence on your business.
Make the improvements and communicate the improvements to the people.
